Winter Solstice
Happy winter solstice everyone! Today is one, of the two the astronomical solstices, which happen each year. It is the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and the longest in the southern. Celebrating the universe and our world is my way of participating in the holiday seasons.
This past weekend we hosted our annual Winter Solstice dinner party again. Our dinner party has become such a fun and looked forward to event with our friends and family that celebrate the solstices. We have hosted the party for 8 years already; time flies when you’re having fun.
My partner and I had so much fun decorating our home for the party. Usually we do not do very much but for some reason we dove in head first with décor.
We decorated the house and yard with candles in jars to bring back the light, evergreen wreaths to represent the rebirth of the year and the circle of life, and other lights and mirrors to reflect the light and really welcome it back. We made a really cute centerpiece for the table with candles and mirrors; I was surprised we came up with something so creative.
Outside we made luminaries along the pathway to our fire ring where we always have a celebratory fire. Sitting around our fire each year with family and friends celebrating the changing seasons always bring me such gratitude. Looking around and seeing the faces and smiles of those who mean so much makes me feel grateful to live the life I do.
Celebrating the rebirth of light back into the earth is like celebrating your own rebirth. The winter solstice brings so much joy and a feeling of renewal to the earth and all the beings. Even if you do not celebrate the winter solstice, there is no doubt it is a time of the year for renewal, finding peace on earth, and honoring family and friends.
We had another incredible annual Winter Solstice dinner party that exceeded all expectations. I really enjoy having people over and celebrating the earth and all its wonders.
The winter solstice is a magical time to acknowledge the earth and the change of seasons. Even though the winter solstice has past, mark your calendars to celebrate the summer solstice and plan to have fun on the longest day of the year.
Namaste.
Anita
