Happy Summer Solstice
Happy Summer Solstice everyone!
The earth is at its maximum tilt towards the sun. It has been celebrated for many years with festivals and celebrations for the beginning of summer. Thousands of years ago, in the ancient times the solstices and equinoxes helped people keep track of the years and calendars. It was also an indicator for the changing of seasons and growing of the crops.
I love the summer solstice or sometimes called the June solstice because it marks the first official day of the summer season! On Saturday we had a few of our friends over to have a little “pre-celebratory” party for the summer solstice. Our solstice parties are always so much fun. We have the greatest friends that are so like-minded.
Even though it wasn’t the official summer solstice, there was still quite a bit of extra daylight to enjoy. We made dinner on the grill with fresh veggies, homemade veggie and turkey burgers, and so many snack foods our friends brought. We also had a lovely bonfire symbolizing the extra light. We always end up staying up so late laughing and being silly around the fire. I am so grateful for our great friends.
If you want to celebrate the beautiful Summer Solstice today here are some ideas.
1. My favorite thing to do is have a bonfire with your friends. In ancient times, the solstice was celebrated by dancing around bonfires and singing songs.
2. I think it is important to thank the wonderful earth for another beautiful day so every year my partner and I plant a seed or a tree to watch it grow as the year grows on.
3. Enjoy the sunlight and cook outside. Grilling food is a great way to enjoy the beautiful weather and make a delicious meal.
4. Why not immerse yourself in the nature around you? Go camping even if it is just in your backyard. Enjoying the outdoors and the fresh crisp breeze is a great way to spend your summer solstice.
5. Embrace all the extra light. Hang a sun catcher in your window and all let the beautiful light in. Keep your windows open all day and let the light flow into your home.
Tonight my partner and I are going to grill out again and spend every minute we can outside enjoying the sun.
The summer solstice is one of my favorite times of the year to reflect and be thankful for our beautiful earth.
Have a wonderful summer solstice,
Namaste.
Anita
I case you are unaware of what the summer solstice is, it is the time of the year that the tilt of the earth’s semi-axis is the most inclined towards the sun.
