One Act at a Time: Happy World Kindness Day

Happy World Kindness Day!  I believe practicing acts of kindness everyday make others happy and can also make you feel great.  Everyone can practice acts of kindness every day, no matter how big or how small one simple act of kindness can change someone’s day for the better.

In honor of this holiday I challenge you to one simple act of kindness, or more!

Spreading kindness doesn’t mean you need a grand gesture or some large sum of money to make a difference.  Spreading kindness can be as simple as a smile to someone who is frowning or saying hello to an elderly women on the bus.

You never know how much that smile or hello might mean to someone.  I try spreading acts of kindness where ever I go and hope that whoever feels my kindness takes it upon them to spread it as well.  Kindness is a chain reaction.

Don’t know how to spread kindness?  Here are some easy ways to spread kindness wherever and whenever.

  •      Make a connection with people you see every day but maybe just pass by without saying anything.  I make a conscious efferent to say hello or even have a little conversation with checkout clerks at stores, the cleaning people in businesses, or even the barista at your favorite café.  Just asking how their day is going or how they are means so much and really goes a long way.

  •        If you see someone struggling carrying their groceries to their car or digging through their purse for some change at a parking meter, offer to help them or give them some of your spare change.  When you help people when they are struggling or need help you make their day better and they will be thankful and maybe do their part in spreading kindness.

  •      When you hold anger you can’t allow yourself to be happy.  Forgive someone whether it is big or small, forgiveness will help them and you live a happier, kinder life.  Forgiving someone has many physical benefits like a decrease in stress, anxiety, and even lower blood pressure.

Being kind is the easiest and cheapest ways to make someone’s day.  Spreading one act of kindness a day can make a world of difference in the world.  Today smile at someone on the street, say hello to the mailman, help someone pay for their coffee, and forgive.  Let’s all do our part to spread kindness this World Kindness Day.

 Namaste.

Anita
